There is ALWAYS something going on at Thies Farm and Greenhouses, here is just a glimpse...

March through June and beyond our greenhouses are filled with a wide selection of bedding plants, hanging baskets, perennials, potted plants, succulents, houseplants, herbs, roses, vegetable plants, tropicals and so much more. Easter Lilies are the first item available and advance orders are accepted. More than 90 percent of our plants were grown here and raised in our greenhouses. When plants are grown locally they tend to be healthier and stronger. Transporting plants causes stress and weakens natural defenses therefore decreasing your chances of gardening success. Mulch, soil, pots, fertilizers, pest control and more are also available in both organic and non organic varieties. The garden staff is always available to answer questions and offer advice. Gardens are much more fun when grown together! Both retail markets open for the year in Mid March.

The month of May means BERRIES! Strawberry season is short but very very sweet! The North Hanley and St Charles locations offers U-Pick Strawberries and strawberries are available already picked at either location. Red and black raspberries along with blackberries follow soon after. Rhubarb, asparagus, spinach are among the other early homegrown favorites. This is also the best time to try a Strawberry Rhubarb pie from the St. Charles bakery!

Homegrown tomatoes are next on the calender, earlier than most expect! We started growing an early batch of tomatoes under the cover of greenhouses so that we bring you that true homegrown taste a month earlier.

As summer progresses so does the homegrown harvest. By early July sweet corn, peaches, cucumbers, melons, peppers, eggplant, nectarines, blackberries, leeks, turnips, kohlrabi, garlic, fresh herbs.... and so much more are available in our markets. Pick your own peaches and blackberries are available at the North Hanley location during this time.

Farm Fresh flower bouquets are available daily beginning in July. You are also welcome to explore the gorgeous cut flower fields and cut your own bouquet. Sunflowers usually begin the second week of July.

August is the best time to buy in bulk and begin canning some sweet summer flavor for winter savoring. Many of our best bulk values are available at this time. It is also APPLE PICKING TIME! Pick your own apples from our orchard at Thies Farm North Hanley location beginning mid-august. We grow 10 delicious varieties and our trees are pruned to keep the fruit low and easy to pick.

Homegrown produce still fills our market through September and even October. September is also a great time to refresh your flower beds for the Fall. Our full line of Hardy Mums, Asters, Flowering Kale, and Pansies add the perfect amount of autumn color and will bloom well into the cool days of fall and winter. Fall is also ideal for planting perennials and trees or shrubs. This allows the roots to establish without the added stress of heat and drought and be healthy and ready to thrive in the spring.

October is “Pumpkinland” at Thies Farm. This month long festival is assured fun for all ages with straw mazes, slides, swings, cable gliders, wagon rides, petting zoo, concessions, crafts, and of course PUMPKINS!! Group rates are available but a reservation is required.

Christmas trees, Poinsettias, wreaths and garland are also available during the month of December at North Hanley and St. Charles. Group orders are accepted for churches and organizations. Price lists are available mid November and delivery is available on large orders. We also offer many unique gift items like our extensive line of jams. jellies, salsa, pickles, dressings and more, custom terrariums and miniature gardens, houseplants, and of course gift certificates for the gardener on your list.
