Something for Every Season

Finding Inspiration and fun at every turn.

There is ALWAYS something going on at Thies Farm and Greenhouses, here is just a glimpse...

Beginning in March our greenhouses are filled with a wide selection of bedding plants, hanging baskets, perennials, potted plants, herbs, roses, vegetable plants, tropicals and so much more. Easter Lilies are the first item available and advance orders are accepted. More than 90 percent of our plants were grown here and raised in our greenhouses. When plants are grown locally they tend to be healthier and stronger. Transporting plants causes stress and weakens natural defenses therefore decreasing your chances of gardening success. Mulch, soil, pots, fertilizers, pest control and more are also available in both organic and non organic varieties. The garden staff is always available to answer questions and offer advice. Gardens are much more fun when grown together! Both retail markets open for the year in early mid March.

The month of May means BERRIES! Strawberry season is short but very very sweet! Both St. Charles and N. Hanley offer U-Pick Strawberry fields and strawberries are available already picked at either location. Red and black raspberries along with blackberries follow soon after. Rhubarb, asparagus, spinach are among the other early homegrown favorites.

Blackberries are the next thing available for pick your own, usually beginning in late June followed by pick your own peaches in early July. The cut flower field opens for cut you own flowers mid July and flowers are priced by the stem. Farm fresh bouquets are also available already made in our market!

As summer progresses so does the homegrown harvest. Tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, okra, beans, peas, sweet corn, leeks, onions, garlic, nectarines and kale are just a handful of the homegrown offerings available in our market at this time. August is the best time to buy in bulk and begin canning some sweet summer flavor for winter savoring. Many of our best bulk values are available at this time.

Homegrown produce still fills our market through September and even October. Our apple orchard at the N. Hanley location opens for pick your own apples mid September.

September is also a great time to refresh your flower beds for the Fall. Our full line of Hardy Mums, Asters, Flowering Kale, and Pansies add the perfect amount of autumn color and will bloom well into the cool days of fall and winter.

October is “Pumpkinland” at Thies Farm. This month long festival is assured fun for all. General admission and groups welcome. Groups are by reservation only. Please call 314-429-5506.

Finally the year ends with Christmas trees, Poinsettias, Greenery wreaths and more! The popular Thies Farm Express Train will be set up all month for your enjoyment along with fun holiday themed 'Winter Wonderland' for the kids.
